‘Burlesque by Force’ is a one-human stage show that shares stories of sexual trauma and consent, juxtaposing exposure of the body with exposure of the impacts of sexual violence as it meets with social stigma, homophobia, body image issues and queer life. Backstage, a burlesque performer strips off costume and character to reveal the dark truths behind the bright lights of life. Walk the line between reality and coping mechanism, where humour, humility and poetry converge in an intimate story of consent and silence-breaking.

This show was first presented at Adelaide Feast Festival to critical acclaim, then presented an independent season at Melbourne’s Butterfly Club, before returning to Adelaide for a brief season in the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2017. After its first showing, Brodie Turner was nominated for the Adelaide Critics’ Circle Emerging Artist Award.

you cannot leave Burlesque by Force unchanged” – Adelaide Advertiser

The Burlesque by Force team acknowledges the Indigenous people on whose stolen lands we perform, whose sovereignty we respect beyond recognition. This performance comes with a trigger warning for loud noises and use of silence, coarse language, mild nudity and content regarding sexual violence. However, this show has been crafted to support audiences to engage in triggering content safely and positively.
